Australian Participating Cities

Come and be part of the worldwide City Nature Challenge!

Join and compete with people from 250 other cities to discover and record as many plant, animal and fungus species as possible. You don’t have to live in the cities below to join in the fun – everyone in Australia is welcome to participate. Just download the iNaturalist app, log in and get snapping!

Greater Adelaide, SA

The Greater Adelaide CNC is organized by Philip Roetman, Stephen Fricker and the team at the South Australian Chapter of the Australian Citizen Science Association.

The Area of Greater Adelaide includes the City of Adelaide and the nearby regional towns. This area features numerous urban and regional parks addition to a dynamic coast.

Greater Geelong, VIC

This ‘City’ is organized by Rod Lowther, Geelong Field Naturalist Club and Pete Crowcroft, Great Ocean Road Coast Committee.

The area is graced with wonderful sandy beaches, some rocky shoreline of the surf coast and the calm waters of Corio bay. While inland, the main areas are agricultural land of the Basalt Western grassland plains with dry eucalypt woodlands of the Brisbane National Park to the north and temperate rainforest and healthlands of the Otway National Park along the Great Ocean Road to the south.

Redland City, QLD

City Nature Challenge Redland City, QLD is organised by Michelle Neil, a fourth generation local, scientist and the current Secretary of the Australian Citizen Science Association, with support from Redland City Council’s Environment and Education Unit from IndigiScapes

Greater Sydney, NSW

City Nature Challenge: Greater Sydney, NSW is organised by Alejandro Trevino (Praxis Urban) and Thomas Mesaglio (University of New South Wales Sydney) with support from UNSW Sydney and Taronga Conservation Society Australia.
